to the Arts & Crafts | New Design Biennial

The Arts & Crafts | New Design Biennial will have its 1st edition in September 2022, ith a focus on Craftsmanship, Technology, Innovation and Sustainability.

Centered in downtown Oeiras, Portugal, between the 20th and 21st of September, the program will consist of an International Conference, a Fair with Workshops and Masterclasses, a presentation of Short-movies (“Curtas”). The Biennial will also extend to other parts of the country, during the months of April, May and June: four Open Days weekends will take place in the Algarve, Alentejo, Centre and North of Portugal.

With the plurality of actions that characterize it and the territories covered, the Biennial seeks to be a pioneering event in the national Arts & Crafts panorama, contributing to its reinforcement, as well as bringing people closer both to the intangible heritage and the contemporary creations that it inspires.

The Biennial is promoted by Spira – revitalização patrimonial, with the seal of the Saison Portugal-France 20-22, co-promoted by the Oeiras Municipality and in partnership with the Tourism of Portugal / Ministry of Economy, AICEP – Portugal Global / Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Directorate-General of Cultural Heritage / Ministry of Culture. In addition, it counts with the support of several national and international institutional partners.

The Biennial is the result of an idea by Spira - revitalização patrimonial and is promoted by this reference company in the Cultural Heritage sector, creator of other emblematic projects in this field in Portugal.
Co-promotion
The Municipality of Oeiras embraces the The Arts & Crafts | New Design Biennial within the framework of its vocation to generate value, promote innovation and bring together diverse audiences.
Curated by
The Fair, the Conference and the “Curtas” are curated by Passa Ao Futuro, a non-profit association dedicated to the preservation, activation and celebration of intangible and cultural heritage associated with Portuguese crafts. Doing so through documentation, promotion, eductaion and implementation of network initiatives.
Masterclasses
The Masterclasses are organized by Portugal Manual, a network to promote new Portuguese craftspeople and artists. Through this network, entrepreneurs have the opportunity to publicize their work, as well as receive support to define strategies and commercial, financial, photography, video or web services.
